Tribal News and Announcements

Announcement from the office of Principal Chief The Gathering at the land in Millwood was a success. There were 30 or so members and family there on Saturday for the feast of fried chicken, bean soup and potato salad. Many of our elders were there and even Chief Tall Tree showed up on Sunday "bless his soul" We had a tribal meeting as such, being that it rained on Sunday and we couldn't start a sacred fire. We Elected a new Chief of the Satilla River Band and held the naming of our 5 new members. We discussed the direction on which the tribe was headed and what to expect in the near future concerning our Wahissa. I just wish there were more of you there for the fun and laughter. Our new State Chief and his family had camped out on Friday night and cut the fire wood for our cook fire "Thank you Chief Dancing Bear and Eagle Eye". There is nothing better than fried chicken cooked on an open fire out in the wilderness. We decided that we need a permit from The US Army Corp. of Engineers to start the work on the lower land, down next to the river. I was informed that it is wet lands and we have to be very careful of what we do with it. We are planning primitive camp sites right on the banks of the Satilla River. We are also planning to dig a 1/2 acre. lake, so we can raise our own fish. All the other lands in the bottom will be used for recreation and planting our community garden of the 3 sisters. As you can see we have a lot of things planed for our tribes future. Once we get going there will be no holding back. We are going to be a tribe of Cherokee People that can hold our heads high and say "we have made it. We are the People" Hope to see you in October for our next camp out and Gathering. May The Creator smile upon all of you and whatever you wish to do. Principal Chief The United Cherokee People Chief Marvin "Walking Bear" tucker |
