We have finally did it. We have our own Tribal Land Welcome to

Wahissa

There will be a gathering on March 18th. 19th. and 20th. 2010 to awaken the land to the Spirits of our past and bring them on to the future with our Tribe. The Land is in Millwood Georgia on Forks Road. It is called Wahissa, and it is right on the banks of the Satilla River.

We are the Cherokee People and The Creator has given us a path to follow. We will become strong and prosperous as long as we don't get diverted from that path.

I hope to see everyone that can make it at the land. This was a great weekend for our People. Everyone can chose their own camp sites and help in the clearing their own site. We drilled a well also and cut a new path down to the river, so everyone could enjoy a fresh dip, or go fishing if they want. We have sett our Sacred Fire pit and Circle. and we blessed all the property.

Remember All are welcome, so bring your tent bring your Tee Pee bring your camper, but most of all bring your yard tools, like chain saws. shovels, rakes, weed eaters and nippers. We can use all the help we can get to make this land your home. Remember this is Tribal land and that means it is for all members to use any time.

Directions- From Pearson, Hwy. 82 East to Millwood, left onto
Forks Road next to Millwood Baptist Church. Travel about 1 mile
to Satilla River Bridge. Property on left, right after bridge.
From Douglas, Hwy. 158 East about 12 miles to Hwy. 64. Take Hwy.
64 toward Pearson about 3.4 miles. Where highway makes a hard
right, continue straight on Minchew Road for just over a half a
mile. Turn left on Forks Road. Forks Road starts out as a dirt road
and eventually turns into a paved road. Property is on right just
before the river.
From Brunswick, travel through Waycross on Hwy. 82 all the way
to Millwood. Take a right on Forks Road just as you enter Millwood
next to Millwood Baptist Church. You will cross the Satilla River
in about 1 mile. Property on left, county boat ramp on right

This is an Inter tribal treaching PowWow.  In 2010, the Strong Sun Pow Wow will take place at a new, expanded site.  With advisement from the Tribal Council, an agreement was reached with Tanglewood Park, in Clemmons, NC.  There are  sites of two Native American villages and an un-named fort on park grounds, which belonged to our ancestors.  This location is well suited to the Strong Sun Pow Wow and will allow the Pow Wow to grow in continued celebration of Native American culture and in promoting an understanding of Native American people.

Approximately 1000 people normally pass through Tanglewoods Park's gate on a given day during peak seaon.  The Strong  Sun Pow Wow will be following the Tanglewood 4th of July Celebration, a major event for the park. In 2009, more than 3500 people attended the Strong Sun Pow Wow.  With more people being aware of this event, attendance will likely far exceed past years.

The Pow Wow grounds are within 30 yards of the Yadkin River.  Fairly near the Park are fish traps in the Yadkin River that were built by our people. If nets were placed in them today, they would work as well as they did in 1600 and before.

We wish to thank Historic Bethabara Park for the time shared with them and wish them well as we journey down our paths.

There are many special event's planned for the 2010 Strong Sun Pow Wow.
Featured will be a concert of renowned Cherokee Native American flutists and drummers, dancers in traditional regalia and ceremonies honoring veterans, as well as many other memorable events.  Native American crafts people from across the country will display their crafts and food vendors will offer traditional Pow Wow menu items.
